Today’s Dietitian
Vol. 28 No. 4 P. 4

We’re in the middle of summer and bringing the heat with an issue loaded with new recipes, clinical nutrition insights, and a special focus on food as medicine and disordered eating treatment frontiers. We also have our annual look back at the TD Symposium, which was held in Orlando this year.

Our cover story, “Reframing Maintenance After Weight Loss Medications” addresses the growing pool of patients discontinuing antiobesity medications and encountering specific hurdles in the process. Dietitians can effectively support these individuals with practical and accessible approaches, including recipes, of course. A sports-focused feature story, “The Athlete Paradox,” comes to us from a sports dietitian and sports performance director exploring the fascinating phenomenon of insulin resistance in certain athletes. Some may be surprised to learn how insulin resistance—a condition more commonly associated with a sedentary lifestyle—can occur in athletes. We’ll take a closer look at the mechanisms and hear how RDs can advance their clinical judgment.

As many of us know, sports and disordered eating concerns all too often intersect. A leading researcher in sports nutrition and eating disorders shares her decades of work, insights, and recommendations for RDs in our up-close-and-personal Get to Know department. Keeping our momentum on the theme, we also dig into pediatric eating disorders and the use of family-based treatment (FBT)—considered the only treatment framework that has evidence showing it can produce a full recovery in this population. The treatment model has evolved over time, with more dietitians becoming trained and joining the interprofessional team.

Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for the amazing community of Today’s Dietitian (TD) readers and supporters. Over the past two years, I’ve had the great privilege of sitting behind the editorial wheel where I’ve been able to get to know many of you better, learn from your expertise, and help advocate for our profession by your side. I’ve sought to amplify voices from many different areas of practice, perspectives, and cultural backgrounds to help showcase just how diverse, impactful, and far-reaching the field of nutrition and dietetics is and can be. This issue will mark my last as editor, as I step down to pursue new career opportunities. However, being a part of TD remains a career highlight, and I will continue cheering everyone on from the sidelines, including hopefully seeing many of you at future conferences and Symposiums. TD offers a place for everyone in the field to share their knowledge, learn from one another, and grow as professionals. It continues to thrive because of you, and it’s been a pleasure to be a part of it.

Please enjoy the issue, and I wish everyone the very best ahead!
