Today’s Dietitian
Vol. 27 No. 3 P. 4

In every issue of Today’s Dietitian (TD), we celebrate the field of nutrition and the powerful contributions of nutrition and dietetics professionals. However, March is always extra special, as we harness the spirit of National Nutrition Month® in a variety of ways, including showcasing 10 exceptional dietitians from around the country in our highly anticipated annual TD10 feature. With a large volume of competitive submissions, I want to personally thank everyone who nominated a dietitian this year and assure you that our team at TD had a very tough task, as we always do, in narrowing it down to only 10 final selections. Doing something a bit new for this year’s lineup, we decided to allow a dynamic RD duo to share one slot, highlighting the way partnership and collaboration in dietetics is a prime factor in dietitian success and satisfaction.

Also in this issue, you’ll find our clinical nutrition feature, revealing the latest research involving micronutrients in the ICU. There, we review the most recent considerations and recommendations for clinical dietitians when applying micronutrient intervention in critical care. Understanding the role of micronutrients in these acute settings is challenging, due in part to the difficulty in assessing nutrient biomarkers in the presence of acute inflammation.

I’m also excited to announce other new offerings in March. In this issue, we launch our 2025 series of Great Debates, unveiling the first of this year’s ongoing tour of some of the hottest controversies in nutrition science. This time around, we’ll take a close look at the contested science of ultraprocessed foods, examining research from all sides, distilling the nuanced insights for RDs to ponder. Second, we welcome the arrival of our dietitian-curated Trend Watch column, displaying the latest food trends to keep you on the cutting edge, get your mouth watering, and get your creative juices flowing. We continue to watch TD’s new Cultural Foodways department evolve, bringing the life of Lebanon to your living room for March.

I hope you enjoy this month’s issue!
