Today’s Dietitian
Vol. 17 No. 5 P. 4

The month of May marks an exciting time for the staff of Today’s Dietitian. We’ll be kicking off our second annual Spring Symposium May 17 to 20 at the Tropicana Las Vegas. Since last year’s inaugural event was such a success, we’ve added an extra day to the 2015 symposium so attendees can enjoy more continuing education sessions presented by well-known dietitians from across the country and networking opportunities with fellow nutrition professionals. All of the highly acclaimed dietitians who presented last year will be returning this year. Some of the new presenters include David Grotto, MS, RDN, LDN; Chef Kyle Shadix, MS, RD, FAND; Neva Cochran, MS, RDN, LD, FAND; and Cheryl Forberg, RD.

This year we begin the symposium with a welcome reception at the Tropicana Beach Club where delicious food and drinks will be served, followed by a keynote luncheon the next day where two-time Olympic gold medalist and health and fitness champ Summer Sanders will present the keynote address. We look forward to catching up with those of you who attended last year’s event and meeting new attendees for the first time.

In this month’s 2015 Spring Symposium issue, Today’s Dietitian is congratulating the three winners of our Share Your Story Essay Contest. We asked readers to write an intriguing story in 500 words or less about why they became dietitians and what happened along their journey. Our panel of judges read several submissions, and the results are in. On page 20, we feature the prize-winning essays for your reading enjoyment. Our first place winner received complimentary registration for herself and a colleague to our 2015 Spring Symposium plus the chance to present her story during the symposium. Our second place winner received 50% off the early bird registration fee for the event, and we gave the third place winner a three-year complimentary subscription to Today’s Dietitian. Enjoy reading their inspirational stories, and the rest of the issue, which includes articles on the association between celiac disease and bone health, supermarket Mediterranean diet programs, lactose intolerance, and the health coach credential for RDs. As always, let us know what you think of these articles on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

I look forward to seeing you in Vegas!
