The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) Annual Meeting & Exhibition is scheduled for August 1 through August 4 in Indianapolis. AADE12 is recognized as the largest gathering of diabetes educators and other nutrition professionals who will have the privilege of attending various educational sessions and special events, exploring the exhibit hall of more than 300 participating companies, engaging in networking opportunities, and taking in the sites of the city.

This year’s theme, “Power of Partnership,” emphasizes that diabetes self-care doesn’t involve the patient alone. Diabetes care entails teamwork that includes patients, CDEs, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the highlights:

Special Event

Tuesday, July 31, 7:30 to 8:30 pm
Inspiring Partnerships — Words of Wisdom
Attendees will hear Sherri Shepherd, cohost of The View, share her personal struggles with type 2 diabetes and discuss the many partnerships she’s formed.

Highlighted Sessions

Wednesday, August 1, 8 to 9:30 am
President’s Address
AADE President Sandra Burke, ANP, CDE, BC-ADM, FAADE, PhD, of the University of Illinois College of Nursing, will share her perspective.

The State of Health Care and Health Policy
An expert panel knowledgeable of the health policy arena will discuss the current state of our healthcare system and its potential impact on diabetes educators and the delivery of care.

Friday, August 3, 9:45 to 11:45 am
Keynote speaker: Brian Wansink, PhD
“From Mindless Eating to Healthy Eating”
Attendees will learn that the most immediate opportunity to reverse mindless eating in their communities and their lives is in their homes. Wansink will discuss the myths of mindless eating and the small, consistent changes individuals, families, and communities can make that transform mindless eating into healthful eating.

Saturday, August 4, 8 to 9:30 am
Keynote speaker: Jane Pauley
“Your Life Calling”
Come listen to this well-respected broadcast journalist veteran and Indianapolis native who currently serves as a health advocate for several organizations.
